Steampunk Digital has collaborated with the Fukuoka City Museum to create an open online museum called “Fukuoka City Museum – Home Digital Experience”
The purpose of this project was to allow people to enjoy the collected artefacts in a museum at home while the museum was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Steampunk Digital has in charge of 3D scanning, and making AR digital experience that works on mobile iPhone and Android mobile phones. We developed our own 3D viewer and AR activation system, and tested across many devices. The viewer supports home desktop browser, WebXR enabled headsets including Oculus Quest, as well as iPhone and many Android phones.
7 masterpieces recommended by the Fukuoka City Museum was converted into 3D models.
Users can load a 3D model, rotate and look in 360-degrees, scroll or pinch-zoom to view details.
In addition, they can enjoy historical masterpieces as AR, life size and matching to the real world on AR ready smartphones and tablets.
The collection includes a leader of the federal clan in Fukuoka, Kuroda Nagamasa’s Kabuto, which is registered as one of the important cultural properties. And Hakata-Ningyo which are not often shown in the permanent exhibitions due to it’s important historical value.
It is possible to look from any angles. Furthermore, it can be possible to enjoy the parts that you have never seen before because you can simply zoom and look at any part where you want to see closely.
View on iPhone or Android to enjoy the AR at home experience.
